This set of three detailed Baroque etchings features important 17th-century European figures: Louis, Dauphin of France (1661–1711); Count Ferenc Nádasdy (1625–1671), Hungarian magnate and military leader executed for treason; and François Michel Le Tellier, Marquis de Louvois (1641–1691), Minister of War under Louis XIV. Each portrait is engraved in an oval medallion with Latin or French captions, characteristic of the formal portrait style of the late 1600s. The prints are attributed to the publishing house of Matthäus Merian (Frankfurt am Main), which issued a variety of biographical and political portrait series throughout the 17th century. These engravings were likely produced circa 1677 as part of a broader commemorative series.
