This set of two architectural engravings, Plates XI and XII, is from Recueil Élémentaire d’Architecture by Jean-François de Neufforge, published in Paris in 1770.

Each engraving presents a développement pour un bâtiment (development for a building) and illustrates precise ornamental arrangements and architectural layouts. Plate XI is titled “Développement pour un Bâtiment de onze Torses de fine dans azure sur treuse et dema de profondeur,” while Plate XII continues the series with additional decorative variations. The engravings reflect the clarity, symmetry, and theoretical rigor characteristic of Neufforge’s neoclassical approach.

Recueil Élémentaire d’Architecture is one of the most comprehensive architectural treatises of the 18th century, comprising hundreds of engraved plates documenting architectural components—from columns and capitals to complete building elevations. The work served as a practical and aesthetic reference for architects, designers, and builders of the Enlightenment period.

Jean-François de Neufforge (1714–1791) was a Belgian-born French architect and engraver whose monumental contributions to architectural publishing shaped the discipline for generations. His engravings became essential tools for both academic study and practical application in neoclassical design.
