150 Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656–1708) – Botanical Study of the Cucumber (Cucumis) – Hand-Coloured Engraving (c. 1700)

Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656–1708) was a pioneering French botanist known for formalizing plant classification based on genera. He served as professor at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and authored several influential works on botany. His illustrations, often accompanied by Latin and French nomenclature, helped lay the groundwork for the later Linnaean system.
