Hand-coloured detailed regional map depicting the situation around Philippsburg during the War of the Polish Succession. In addition to the fortress, it also shows Russheim, Neudorf, Waghäusel-Wiesental, and Oberhausen-Rheinhausen, as well as the village of Knaudenheim, which was abandoned in 1757.
Bernard Jaillot (1649–1739) was a prominent French cartographer and engraver active in Paris during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He is best known for modernizing and republishing the works of Nicolas Sanson, one of France's leading cartographers, enhancing their detail and presentation. Jaillot's high-quality maps and atlases were valued for their accuracy and elegance, serving both scholars and government officials. His collaboration with family members and dedication to cartographic excellence solidified his legacy in the history of French cartography.
