"A Chart, Shewing the Tracks and Discoveries in the Pacific Ocean, Made by Capt. Cook, and Capt. Clerke in his Majesty's Ships Resolution and Discovery, in the Years 1777, 1778, 1779, 1780" This map covers the whole Pacific and focuses on the discoveries of Capt. Cook during his three voyages in the Pacific, in which he charted the eastern coastline of Australia and much of the northwest coast of North America, circumnavigated New Zealand, and discovered numerous Pacific islands including the Hawaiian Islands. The map was included in William Ellis' account of Captain Cook’s third voyage, one of the first privately published works of the historic voyage. Ellis was a surgeon’s mate on the voyage who sold his narrative and drawings to a publisher; thus he ruined his naval career by violating the Admiralty’s injunction against such private endeavors. ”Australia and New Zealand” Lithographed hand-coloured map of Australia and New Zealand, originates from ”The Imperial Atlas of Modern Geography” published by Blackie &amp; Son, Glasgow, Edinburgh &amp; London, 1860. Blackie &amp; Son was a British publishing company founded in 1809 by John Blackie. The company became well-known for its educational books, children's literature, and illustrated works. It published a wide range of materials, including reference books, poetry, and fiction, often featuring high-quality illustrations. Blackie &amp; Son played a key role in the development of children's literature and the educational publishing market in Britain. Zelande" Detailed hand-coloured chart of the Thames River and Mercury Bay with insets of The Bay of Islands, and Tolaga Bay, from the first French edition of the official account of Cook's Voyage to New Zealand.The map is based on surveys brought back to England at the end of Capt. James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific and New Zealand which lasted 3 years from 1768-1771. In 1769 Cook's ship the&nbsp;Endeavour&nbsp;sailed along the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, and anchored briefly in an inlet that Cook named Tolaga Bay, where the crew took on supplies of wood and water. Continuing along the coast Cook found a large bay whose shores were lushly cultivated, and so he aptly named it Bay of Plenty.Anchoring on the west side of the Bay, Cook and Charles Green went ashore to observe the transit of Mercury across the Sun. Cook named the region Mercury Bay. From there, Cook continued along the coast until a river was sighted. Cook went ashore in what is now Hauraki Gulf.
