This collection comprises a full set of a new edition of the renowned work by Buffon (1707-1788), edited by the French naturalist C.-N.-S. Sonnini de Manoncourt (1751-1812). The volumes cover a wide range of subjects, including general topics such as the theory of the earth and mineralogy, as well as specific categories like quadrupeds, birds, fish, cetaceans, reptiles (authored by Daudin), mollusks (by Denys-Monfort), crustaceans and insects (by P.A. Details on the total number of copper engravings and other illustrations published with this work were not found. Includes illustrations on human and animal deformities, sea monsters, the construction of an air machine, agricultural tools, lamps and stoves, religious martyrdoms, spiders, garden and city planning, and a woodcut of a rattlesnake believed to possess magical powers.

Scriverius (1576-1660) builds upon the significant annotated edition by the Dutch humanist Stewechius (1557-1588), which compiles major classical sources on the Roman Army. It also incorporates notes by the Bruges humanist Fr. Modius (1566-1597). The volume features 47 large woodcuts depicting Roman machinery and tactics, as well as numerous woodcut coin illustrations, diagrams, and smaller illustrations. De La Court Van Der Voort's influential reference work on the construction and design of country houses ("buitenplaatsen"), based on his personal experience with his own country house, Berbice (Voorschoten). This work is notable for its impact on garden history, including the design of orangery and garden walls. It also covers topics such as the heating of glasshouses and the cultivation of pineapples, lemons, oranges, etc. 4to: xxiv-[8]-412-[32] pp.; 15 plates (upper margin repaired, slightly browned).
