This rare woodcut by Hans Burgkmair the Elder. Ypres, troops marching towards a town in background, others storming a fortified building with tower in the middle distance. Early proof for an illustration to ”Der Weisskunig”. Signed with monogram.
Hans Burgkmair the Elder (1473-1531) was a German painter and printmaker known for his contributions to the Renaissance art movement. He worked primarily in Augsburg, where he produced a variety of paintings, woodcuts, and engravings. Burgkmair's works often depicted religious subjects, historical events, and portraits, showcasing his technical skill and attention to detail, which influenced later generations of artists in Germany and beyond.
