67 Christoffel van Sichem (II) - Jonah sits under the wonder tree overlooking the city of Nineveh - 1648
Original antique woodcut depicting Jonah sits under the wonder tree, Jonah sits overlooking the city of Nineveh waiting for God to destroy the city. God has grown a miracle tree for him so that he can sit in the shade. But the next day the tree has withered, the leaves hang limp, and Jonah is overcome by the heat. This print originates from the work ”t’Scat der Zielen, dat is: Het geheete leven ons Heeren Jesu Christi…”, published in Amsterdam in 1648 by Pieter I. Print was made by Christoffel van Sichem (II) after Veit Rudolf Specklin, published in Amsterdam, 1648.
