This detailed 18th-century copperplate engraving presents a map focusing on L'ISLE FORMOSE (Formosa Island, modern-day Taiwan) and a portion of PROVINCE DE FOKIEN (Fujian Province) in China. The map meticulously depicts topographical details including mountains, coastal features, and settlements, with the Tropic of Cancer also marked. This cartographic work was published as part of Antoine-François Prévost d'Exiles' monumental Histoire Générale des Voyages, providing contemporary navigators and scholars with essential geographical insights into East Asia during the Age of Exploration. The engraving style is typical of the period, combining illustrative detail with geographical accuracy.
