9 Abbé Antoine François Prévost (1697–1763) – Map of the Entrance to the Canton River – Engraving (c. 1750)

Abbé Antoine François Prévost was a French novelist and historian, best known for his novel Manon Lescaut. His most ambitious work was the monumental Histoire générale des voyages, which compiled and edited reports from global explorations. The work was highly influential, serving as a comprehensive source of information on geography, ethnography, and natural history for a wide European audience.
