This finely engraved and hand-colored map by Johann Christoph Weigel presents the Electoral Palatinate (Palatinatus Rheni), along with parts of Swabia, Franconia, and the Rhineland. The map highlights principal cities, bishoprics, rivers, and territorial divisions of the Holy Roman Empire in southwestern Germany. A richly illustrated cartouche in the upper right corner includes allegorical figures and coats of arms.

Published in Nuremberg as part of Weigel’s Bequemer Schul- und Reisen-Atlas, also titled Atlas Scholasticus et Itinerarius, this work was created in collaboration with historian Johann David Köhler and served educational and practical travel purposes. Weigel’s cartographic output is noted for its precision, clarity, and decorative appeal.
