This detailed map of Livonia and Courland was created by Johann Christoph Weigel and published in Nuremberg in the early 18th century. It encompasses the Baltic regions of present-day Latvia and Estonia, as well as parts of Lithuania and northern Poland. The map is finely engraved with topographical detail and colored boundaries, and it features a decorative title cartouche in the upper left corner reading “Livoniae et Curlandiae Tabula Auct. C. Weigelio Noribergæ”

This work was issued as part of Weigel’s Atlas Scholasticus et Itinerarius, a renowned travel atlas compiled in collaboration with the historian Johann David Köhler, intended to educate scholars and travelers. The map reflects the geopolitical complexities of the region during the early 1700s, including duchies, bishoprics, rivers, and fortified cities. Johann Christoph Weigel was a prolific German engraver and publisher whose atlases and cartographic works were valued for their accuracy and aesthetic quality.
