This finely executed aquatint presents a panoramic view of the coastal settlement of Maasø (modern Måsøy) in northern Norway. The scene captures the quiet curve of the bay, where sailing ships rest under a dramatic sky, and a fishing village with churches and houses nestles against rugged cliffs. A lone figure walks along the shoreline in the foreground, while the distant fjords fade into a luminous horizon. Published as Plate XIV in Voyage pittoresque au Cap Nord, this work reflects both the documentary intent and romantic vision of A. F. Skjöldebrand’s arctic journey.

Anders Fredrik Skjöldebrand (1757–1834) was a Swedish military officer, nobleman, and artist whose travels to the North Cape in 1799 resulted in one of the earliest visual records of arctic Norway. His Voyage pittoresque au Cap Nord combined Enlightenment travelogue with the aesthetics of Nordic Romanticism, rendered in finely shaded aquatints.
