This detailed and finely hand-colored copperplate engraving presents the kingdoms and provinces of Scandinavia and the Baltic region, including modern-day Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, and northwestern Russia. The territories are clearly divided by color-coded borders, with dense toponyms, rivers, and mountain ranges meticulously engraved. The Baltic Sea (Mare Balticum) forms the central axis of the composition, surrounded by richly textured coastlines. In the lower right corner, a decorative title cartouche features allegorical figures, weaponry, and naval emblems, underscoring the geopolitical and maritime importance of the region during the early 18th century.

Christoph Weigel the Elder (1654–1725) was a German engraver, mapmaker, and publisher based in Nuremberg. Known for his richly ornamented cartographic works, he combined baroque visual style with geographic precision. His maps were widely circulated in atlases and geographical compendia throughout Europe.
