This finely engraved and hand-colored map depicts the Dioecesis Hildesiensis, or the Diocese of Hildesheim, a historical ecclesiastical territory in Lower Saxony, Germany. The map features detailed town names, rivers, borders, and topographical elements, rendered with precise typography and fine hatchwork. Political boundaries are delicately hand-colored in green and yellow wash. A decorative cartouche in the upper right shows mounted figures in a pastoral setting, reinforcing the map’s 18th-century baroque aesthetic. Issued by Christoph Weigel in Nuremberg, this work exemplifies the fusion of scientific cartography and artistic engraving in early modern German mapmaking.

Christoph Weigel the Elder (1654–1725) was a prominent German engraver, publisher, and cartographer based in Nuremberg. He is known for producing finely detailed maps, atlases, and illustrated books. His output contributed significantly to German Enlightenment publishing, combining geographic precision with ornamental design.
