105 Willem Baudartius & Simon Wynhoutsz. Frisius – Siege and Capture of Hulst

This historically important engraving documents the siege and capture of Hulst by Dutch forces under Maurice of Nassau during the Eighty Years' War. Created under the direction of Willem Baudartius and engraved by Simon Wynhoutsz. Frisius, the scene presents a bird's-eye view of the fortified city of Hulst, illustrating troop formations, artillery positions, and defensive works with remarkable clarity. The engraving conveys both the strategic complexity and the political significance of the Dutch victory over Spanish-held territory in 1591.
Willem Baudartius, a theologian and historian, was instrumental in chronicling the military campaigns of the Dutch Revolt. His collaboration with Frisius resulted in a series of finely detailed engravings that remain vital historical records of early modern warfare in the Low Countries.
