This expressive lithograph of a standing nude by Henri Matisse comes from Derrière le Miroir No. 46–47, published in 1952 by Maeght Éditeur in Paris. Rendered in Matisse’s unmistakable minimalist line style, this image exemplifies his mastery of form and rhythm. Using only a few swift, confident strokes, Matisse conveys a powerful sense of volume, sensuality, and movement.

This piece is part of the series of lithographs that accompanied the special issue of Derrière le Miroir dedicated to Matisse. These works mark the late period of the artist’s career when he focused on simplified representations of the human figure, influenced by his cut-outs and paper découpages.

Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was one of the leading figures of modern art. Known for both his revolutionary use of color and his elegant line work, Matisse’s contribution to 20th-century visual culture is profound. His later collaborations with Maeght and Derrière le Miroir helped disseminate his work to a wide audience and remain iconic examples of art publishing.
