75 Daniel Meisner (1585–1625) – View of Osuna, Spain – "Virtute ac Pietate, Non Bonis" – Copperplate Engraving (1630)

This emblematic city view of Osuna in Spain is accompanied by the Latin motto Virtute ac Pietate, Non Bonis (“By virtue and piety, not by riches”), underscoring the early Baroque ideal that moral strength outweighs material wealth. The engraving features the Spanish town in the background, while in the foreground a classical figure pulls a cart bearing a coffer, symbolizing inner values. To the right, two allegorical female figures observe, reinforcing the message of ethical supremacy.
This work belongs to the renowned series Thesaurus Philo-Politicus by Daniel Meisner, published circa 1630. Each print in the series depicts a European city alongside a moralizing emblem and accompanying verse in Latin and German. Meisner, in collaboration with Eberhard Kieser, created this unique synthesis of political geography and emblematic thought.
