195 Wilhelm von Wright & Carl Andreas Lindh – Dolphins and Killer Whale – Chromolithograph from Meves' Atlas of the Mammals of Scandinavia (1873)

This original 19th-century chromolithograph, Plate XXI from Meves' Atlas of the Mammals of Scandinavia, depicts five cetacean species native to Nordic waters: the Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis), White-sided Dolphin (Delphinus albirostris), White-beaked Dolphin (Delphianus arucula), Harbour Porpoise (Delphinus tursio), and Killer Whale (Orcinus orca). Each animal is presented in profile with striking coloration and anatomical accuracy, reflecting the high scientific and artistic standards of Scandinavian zoological publications of the period.
The atlas was published in 1873 by T.O. Meves in Stockholm, with illustrations by Carl Andreas Lindh and Wilhelm von Wright, both renowned for their contributions to Nordic natural history illustration. These plates played a significant role in the visual education of both scholars and the broader public during the rise of modern zoology in the 19th century.
