This engraved map by Ambroise Tardieu offers a detailed view of Basse Égypte (Lower Egypt), spanning from Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast to Cairo and the edge of the Arabian Desert. Titled Carte de la Basse Égypte, it shows the Nile Delta in precise topographical form, with cities, villages, waterways, and desert boundaries clearly marked. The map is part of Tardieu’s contribution to the visual documentation of Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign, and is noted at top as Campagne d’Égypte, T.3.

Ambroise Tardieu was a renowned French engraver, cartographer, and scientific publisher active in the early 1800s. Known for his clarity, accuracy, and compositional elegance, he produced influential atlases and military maps during the Napoleonic era. His engravings on Egypt reflect both Enlightenment curiosity and military strategic needs.
