5 Ambroise Tardieu (1788–1841) – Map of the Environs of Ulm – Engraved Topographic Map (early 19th century)
This finely engraved topographic map by Ambroise Tardieu shows the terrain surrounding the city of Ulm, a strategic military site located on the Danube in southern Germany. Titled Carte topographique des environs d’Ulm, the map details rivers, elevation, forests, roads, and settlements across the region, with Ulm prominently marked at the centre. The rendering of hills and natural contours through delicate hachuring reflects the cartographic style of early 19th-century French military engineering. It is identified as part of the Campagne du Rhin 7.e series, intended for analytical use during the Napoleonic Wars.
