This striking celestial engraving represents the constellation Aquarius, the Water Bearer, one of the oldest zodiac signs in Western astronomy. The figure is shown as a powerful nude male pouring water from an amphora, with a stream of stars flowing from the vessel across the sky. The composition blends mythological iconography with a simplified, stylised form that enhances its instructional clarity. The stars are hand-highlighted in golden tones, and the plate is numbered “No. 48” in the lower corner, identifying it as part of Charles Blunt’s educational star atlas series.

Charles Blunt was a British science educator and visual communicator active in the early 19th century. His publication The Beauty and Use of Astronomy introduced the general public to the constellations through accessible language and compelling visuals. His engraved charts are now highly regarded as pioneering examples of early astronomical popularisation.
