This two-plate set presents scientifically accurate engravings of mushroom species from the genus Flammula, part of the Cortinariaceae family. The illustrations depict a rich variety of forms and textures—some showing velvety caps, others gilled undersides or distinctive stems—all labeled with Latin binomials. Each specimen is rendered with meticulous attention to structure and differentiation, exemplifying Enlightenment-era standards in botanical and mycological documentation. The plates belong to a larger series of natural history engravings originally initiated by Carl Gustav Jablonsky and later carried forward by Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Herbst.

Carl Gustav Jablonsky (1756–1787) was a Prussian naturalist, scientific illustrator, and private secretary to Queen Elisabeth Christine. Though best known for his entomological work, his broader contribution to natural science illustration reflects a strong commitment to Linnaean taxonomy, artistic clarity, and empirical observation.
