This richly detailed and hand-coloured copperplate engraving titled Erste Tafel in welcher alle gehörige Werk-Zeuge zur Kriegs-Kunst und Artillerie, zu Belagerung der Städte Vestungen und Schlösser in Feld-Schlachten, auch allerley Schiff- und See-Materialien vorgestellet werden presents an elaborate overview of early 18th-century military engineering and artillery. The central illustration shows a fortified city under siege, surrounded by diagrams and labeled illustrations of tools, weapons, siege devices, cannons, mortars, transport carts, naval instruments, and ship rigging equipment. Each item is meticulously labeled in German and organized by function, highlighting the operational complexity of siege warfare and artillery deployment.

Christoph Weigel (1654–1725) was a master engraver and publisher based in Nuremberg, renowned for his illustrated military, heraldic, and technical reference works. This engraving was issued in 1718 as part of his compendium on warfare and fortification. Weigel’s works are notable for their clarity, visual structure, and integration of image with explanatory text, making them essential resources for both military professionals and scholarly readers of the early Enlightenment.
