This original set of 18th-century scientific engravings was published in the renowned reference work Cyclopaedia: or, An Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences by Ephraim Chambers and later expanded by Abraham Rees. The plates, titled "Electricity. Tab. II" and "Tab. III", feature detailed technical illustrations of early electrical apparatuses, including rotating machines, Leyden jars, conductors, electrical thermometers, and various demonstration devices. These plates were engraved to accompany the text entries on electricity and reflect Enlightenment advancements in experimental science and instrumentation. First compiled by Chambers and revised and enlarged by Rees, the Cyclopaedia served as one of the most comprehensive encyclopedic works of the era.

Ephraim Chambers (c.1680–1740) was an English writer and encyclopaedist whose Cyclopaedia (1728) laid the foundation for later reference works, including the French Encyclopédie. Abraham Rees (1743–1825), a Welsh clergyman and scholar, expanded Chambers’ original work into a far larger scientific and technical compendium, known as Rees’s Cyclopaedia, published between 1778 and 1820. Their collaborative legacy profoundly shaped encyclopedic publishing in Britain.
