This large-format black-and-white portrait of Andy Warhol was originally created in 1973 as part of a Brooks Brothers commercial photo shoot published in L’Uomo Vogue. Captured by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani, the image presents Warhol in a bathrobe and socks, holding a Polaroid camera and a cassette player — a composed yet ironic commentary on celebrity, fashion, and identity. In 2008, the image was featured in the Discover Andy Warhol! (Upptäck Andy Warhol!) exhibition at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and was reissued as a Giclée print on microcement, mounted on okumè wood. This edition was printed in 2007 by Jernström Offset.
Oliviero Toscani (b. 1942) is a renowned Italian photographer, internationally acclaimed for revolutionizing commercial imagery and visual communication. He is most famous for his long collaboration with Benetton, creating controversial ad campaigns that addressed racism, war, AIDS, and other social issues. Toscani studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich and has worked with major magazines such as Elle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Esquire. His bold approach merges art, fashion, and political commentary, making him one of the most influential image-makers of the late 20th century.
