7 Nicolas Sanson (1600–1667) – Map of Silesia, Moravia and Lusatia / Provinces unies à la Couronne de Bohême – Large Copperplate Engraving (Paris, 1654)

This copperplate map titled Provinces unies et incorporées à la Couronne de Bohême presents the duchies and margraviates of Silesia, Moravia, and Lusatia, united under the Crown of Bohemia. The map details the political geography of these Habsburg lands in the mid-17th century, covering parts of modern-day Czech Republic, Poland, and eastern Germany. It includes major cities, rivers, and mountain ranges with administrative borders outlined in hand colour.
The elegant cartouche in the upper right names Nicolas Sanson d’Abbeville, royal geographer to the King of France and one of the founding figures of French scientific cartography. Known for his precision and minimalist style, Sanson broke with Dutch decorative conventions to emphasize geographic accuracy and political clarity. This map was published in Paris in 1648 with royal privilege.
