105 Italian Artist – Portrait of Sultan Ibrahim I – From the Series "Turkish Sultans, Sultanas and Other Personages" – Etching (c.1650s)

This mid-17th-century etching portrays Sultan Ibrahim I (1615–1648), ruler of the Ottoman Empire from 1640 to 1648. Shown in a richly detailed fur-trimmed robe and ornate turban, the portrait is enclosed in an oval frame with an Italian inscription: "Sultan Ibrahim Imp. di Turchi ascese all’ Impero l’anno 1646". This engraving forms part of the Italian series "Turkish Sultans, Sultanas and Other Personages", which was published circa 1650 and reflects the European fascination with the Ottoman court. Although the date of accession noted is inaccurate (Ibrahim became Sultan in 1640), the series is notable for its stylistic charm, elaborate costume detail, and its role in shaping 17th-century European perceptions of the East.
