108 Friedrich Wilhelm von Bauer (1731–1783) – Set of 3 Historical Portraits – Retaut de Villette, Le Père Loth, Le Baron de la Fages – Etchings published by Paul-André Basset (1787–1789)

This rare set of three historical etchings is attributed to Friedrich Wilhelm von Bauer, a Prussian engineer and military cartographer in Russian service, who was active in the mid to late 18th century. The portraits depict Retaut de Villette, Le Père Loth (Minime), and Le Baron de la Fages—key figures in the notorious Affair of the Diamond Necklace, a scandal that shook the court of Marie Antoinette. Executed with sharp precision and documentary clarity, each portrait is presented within an oval frame and inscribed pedestal.
The works were published in Paris between 1787 and 1789 by Paul-André Basset and later preserved in the Collection de Vinck at the Bibliothèque nationale de France as part of the series Images de la Révolution française.
