This original lithograph cover was created by Alexander Calder for Derrière Le Miroir No. 207, published in January 1974 by Maeght Éditeur in Paris. The issue titled Cinq livres gravés features Calder’s vivid abstract composition in striking red, yellow, and black tones, typical of his playful yet precise visual language. The cover lithograph was printed by Arte Adrien Maeght and accompanied by quadri-color prints by Team Offset. The publication was released for a thematic exhibition, with design by Serge Gevin.
Alexander Calder (1898–1976) was an American sculptor known for inventing the mobile, a form of kinetic sculpture, as well as for his bold, primary-colored paintings and monumental stabiles. He revolutionized sculpture by introducing movement and abstraction, and his influence extended to painting, printmaking, and stage design. Calder collaborated frequently with avant-garde publishers like Maeght, leaving a strong visual legacy in mid-century modern art and design.
