This antique map shows France along with its territorial extensions, including detailed insets of the Harbours of Toulon and Brest. The map was produced by renowned British engraver Emanuel Bowen, and includes artistic cartouches and figures in the lower left corner.
Emanuel Bowen (1694–1767) was one of the leading British map and print engravers of the 18th century. Appointed as Geographer to both King George II of Great Britain and Louis XV of France, he was known for his detailed annotations and for producing atlases and charts that were widely distributed throughout Europe. His works remain significant for their historical and geographical detail.
