29 Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d’Anville (1697–1782) – Map of Ancient Egypt / Ægyptus Antiqua – Engraving (1783)

The map depicts ancient Egypt along the Nile River, from the Mediterranean Sea to the borders of Nubia and the Red Sea. It includes an extensive index of ancient place names on both sides of the river, as well as Roman and Hellenistic references. The work was engraved for L'Histoire Ancienne, published in London on February 1st, 1783, and printed by G. Terry at Paternoster Row.
Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d’Anville (1697–1782) was a celebrated French cartographer and royal geographer known for his meticulous use of classical sources and scientific precision. His works became foundational references for historical and geographical scholarship, particularly in the study of antiquity.
