"France with its Acquired Territories in Germany and the Netherlands"

The map was created by Thomas Jefferys, Geographer to the Prince of Wales. It depicts France and surrounding regions in the mid-18th century, highlighting French possessions and strategic harbors including detailed insets of the ports of Toulon and Brest. Richly engraved and filled with topographic and political detail, the map is an important example of British cartographic output during the period of intense Franco-British rivalry.

Thomas Jefferys (c.1719–1771) was one of the most influential English cartographers of the 18th century. He was known for his precise and elegant engravings, especially of British colonies and European regions of strategic interest. As Geographer to King George III, Jefferys played a key role in producing maps for military and colonial use, and his work contributed significantly to Enlightenment-era geographical understanding.
