This detailed map of Asia by James Wyld illustrates the political divisions and geographical features of the continent during the late 19th century. The coloring highlights various territorial claims and boundaries as understood in 1874. The map was published in London by James Wyld, a prominent cartographer and geographer to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
James Wyld (1812–1887) was a British geographer and map publisher who inherited his father’s business and significantly expanded its reach. Known for his highly detailed and commercially successful maps, he played a key role in popularizing geography through his accessible and decorative cartographic publications. He was a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and served as Member of Parliament for Bodmin.
