Original lithograph from the iconic Toros y Toreros series, dated 2 March 1959 and marked XIX. This expressive composition captures a powerful vision of the crucified Christ, rendered in Picasso’s intense, gestural style. The sheet features multiple depictions of Christ’s face and body, evoking both suffering and transcendence. Executed in rich black ink with dramatic contrast, the image draws from themes of martyrdom, sacrifice, and redemption, which Picasso explored deeply during this period.

This work is part of the Toros y Toreros suite, originally published in 1961 by Maeght Éditeur in Paris, with lithographs printed by Atelier Mourlot.

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) remains one of the defining figures of modern art. In his late lithographic series, such as Toros y Toreros and the dated sequences of 1959, he returned to primal motifs with masterful spontaneity, condensing gesture, myth, and story into singular visual moments.
