Set of 2 hand-coloured engravings. These prints originate from British Entomology, written and illustrated by John Curtis. Though primarily an entomological work, many of the illustrations include the plants upon which the insects were found, resulting in a beautiful cross-section of both flora and fauna from 19th-century Britain.

John Curtis (1791–1862) was a British entomologist and illustrator, renowned for his significant contributions to the study of British insects. He is best known for his monumental work, British Entomology (1824–1839), a comprehensive guide to the insects of the British Isles, featuring meticulously detailed illustrations. Curtis combined scientific accuracy with artistic skill, making his plates valuable both as scientific references and works of art. He was also a keen observer of agricultural pests, publishing studies that highlighted the impact of insects on crops and advocating for their management.
