The engraving depicts the 1591 siege and storming of the Château d'Ambresis (Amersis) near Cambrai, conducted by troops under Count Philip of Hohenlohe. The scene is filled with military movement: cannons positioned at the edge of the forest fire upon the stronghold, while soldiers advance through the terrain toward the besieged castle. The surrounding countryside and fortress architecture are rendered with characteristic topographical precision.

Accompanied by explanatory Latin and French text, the work forms part of a broader historical narrative series chronicling the key military confrontations during the Eighty Years’ War.
