112 Jean-Baptiste Massé (1687–1767) after Peter Paul Rubens & Jean-Marc Nattier – "Dedie au Roy" – Large Engraving (1708)

Rare early 18th-century engraving titled Dedie au Roy, created by Jean-Baptiste Massé after a composition by Peter Paul Rubens, with drawing by Jean-Marc Nattier. The allegorical scene celebrates royal power, with a dynamic Baroque composition of cherubs, figures, and flowing drapery centered around a coat of arms. The engraving was sold in Paris by Duchange, engraver to the King, "above Rue des Mathurins", with royal privilege as noted in the inscription.
Jean-Baptiste Massé (1687–1767) was a French engraver and painter known for his elegant compositions and royal commissions. He trained under prominent artists of his time and became a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture. His works are recognized for their precision, delicate shading, and integration of grand manner style. Massé contributed significantly to the artistic representation of the French monarchy during the reign of Louis XV.
