"Tabula CCXXXVIII"

Tabula CXXXVIII presents a detailed anatomical illustration of the human brain, seen from below, emphasizing the complex vascular and neurological structure with remarkable clarity and precision. This exceptional copperplate engraving comes from Icones anatomicae; Iconum anatomicarum explicatio by Antonio Caldani. The work was published in Venice between 1801 and 1814.

Icones Anatomicae is a monumental anatomical atlas issued in multiple volumes, renowned for its large-format engravings that depict human organs, tissues, and structures with scientific accuracy. The series served as a comprehensive visual reference for physicians, surgeons, and anatomists in the early 19th century.

A pupil of Morgagni, Antonio Caldani succeeded his teacher in the chair of anatomy at the University of Padua, where he was already professor of theoretical medicine. In his later years, he was assisted in the publication of this work by his nephew Floriano Caldani, also a professor at Padua.
