34 Peter Schenk the Elder (1660–1711) – Map of Antwerp on the Scheldt / Antverpia, Brabantiae ad Scaldim – Belgium (1709)

”Antverpia”
This engraved city plan depicts Antwerp (Antverpia), a fortified city on the Scheldt River in the Brabant region. The map shows the city’s star-shaped bastion walls and surrounding defensive structures, with a clear street layout and fortified citadels on both sides of the river. The original Latin and Dutch captions mention that the city was reinforced with a castle by Philip II of Spain and that this view was featured in the cartographic work Hecatompoli. The map was published by Peter Schenk the Elder in Amsterdam.
