Large antique aquatint with dot roulette etching printed with sanguine coloured ink on heavy laid paper originates from Raffaele Albertolli, Giacomo Mercoli and Giuseppe Piermarini’s ”Ornamenti diversi, inventati, disegnati ed eseguiti da Giocondo Albertolli, professore d'ornati nella reale Accademia delle belle arti in Milano incisi da Giacomo Mercoli Luganese”. The work was published in Milan, 1796.
Raffaele Albertolli (1770–1812) was an Italian architect and decorator known for his neoclassical style. He came from a family of artists and was particularly skilled in ornamental design. His work featured intricate stucco decorations, often adorning prestigious buildings in Italy. Albertolli's contributions played a significant role in shaping neoclassical interior decoration during his time.
