This is a complete set of four antique maps representing the English counties of Huntingdonshire, Staffordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Nottinghamshire. Each map is finely detailed, showing cities, towns, roads, railways, and civil boundaries, with distinct original colour outlining. The cartography is clear and elegant, typical of mid-19th-century British printing. The maps were published by the prominent firm George Philip & Son, based in London and Liverpool, which was widely known for its educational atlases and school wall maps.

George Philip (1800–1882) was a Liverpool-born cartographer and publisher. In 1834, he established his own publishing company, which later became George Philip & Son when his son joined the firm. The company became a major force in geographical publishing, supplying schools and institutions throughout the British Empire with reliable and beautifully produced maps and atlases.
