25 Adrien-Hubert Brué (1786–1832) – Map of the Empire of Alexander the Great incl. Persia, Bactria, India & Mediterranean Campaigns – From Atlas Universel (1875)

”Carte Générale de l’Empire d’Alexandre”
Antique hand-coloured map illustrating the vast conquests of Alexander the Great, spanning from Macedonia through Egypt, Persia, Central Asia, and into India. Originally drawn by Adrien-Hubert Brué and revised by Émile Levasseur, it was published by Charles Delagrave in Paris in 1875 as part of his Atlas Universel en 67 Feuilles. The map highlights key routes of military campaigns, division of satrapies, and ancient place names corresponding to modern-day regions such as Greece, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
The lower part of the map features a set of comparative inset maps showing territorial expansions under different rulers and stages of Alexander's empire, including the partitioned realms of his generals after his death. Adrien-Hubert Brué, geographer to the French royal court, was known for combining historical depth with geographic accuracy. Charles Delagrave was one of the most prominent 19th-century educational publishers in France, and Émile Levasseur (1828–1911) contributed academic precision to these maps through his role as a member of the Institut.
