23 Adrien-Hubert Brué (1786–1832) – Map of Ancient Gaul (La Gaule) with Tribal Divisions and Roman Infrastructure – From Atlas Universel (1875)

Richly detailed historical map of Ancient Gaul, originally drawn by Adrien-Hubert Brué and later revised by Émile Levasseur. It was published by Charles Delagrave as part of the Atlas Universel en 67 Feuilles in Paris in 1875. The map outlines the tribal and provincial divisions of Gaul during the Roman period and includes a number of inset maps showing Roman roads, battles, key cities, and regional configurations of various epochs. The territories of the Celtic tribes, Roman provinces, and geographic features such as mountains and rivers are clearly delineated and colour-coded by region.

Adrien-Hubert Brué was a distinguished French geographer, known for his scientific precision and thematic cartography. His collaborator Émile Levasseur (1828–1911) brought additional clarity and academic rigor to these maps. The map was published by Charles Delagrave, a leading 19th-century French educational publisher who helped popularize geographic and historical knowledge through high-quality engraved atlases used in schools and universities throughout France.
