21 Adrien-Hubert Brué (1786–1832) – Map of Roman Palestine incl. the Tribes of Israel, Christ’s Travels & St Paul’s Journeys (c.1828)

”Carte de la Palestine sous la Domination Romaine”
Detailed historical map of the Holy Land during the Roman period, compiled by Adrien-Hubert Brué and revised by Émile Levasseur. Published by Ch. Delagrave at the Institut Géographique de Paris around 1828, the map depicts ancient Palestine with Roman-era provincial borders, key cities, and terrain. It includes five inset maps: the division of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, the voyages of St Paul the Apostle, the travels of Jesus Christ, the Exodus, and Jerusalem during the Roman period. Coloured by region and featuring Latin place names, the map is both an educational and decorative historical artifact.
Adrien-Hubert Brué was a French cartographer known for his meticulous historical atlases and innovative educational maps. He served as official geographer to King Louis XVIII and Charles X, and produced some of the most influential thematic and classical maps of early 19th-century France. His collaborator, Émile Levasseur, was a geographer and economist who brought scholarly refinement to Brué’s cartographic legacy.
