This antique aquatint engraving titled Fleuve d’Alten, Cascade de Pursoronka captures a dramatic view of a waterfall cascading down the steep cliffs into the Alten River in northern Norway. The surrounding scenery, with jagged mountain ranges, deep fjords, and moody clouds, exemplifies the grandeur and remoteness of the Scandinavian landscape. Human figures and boats along the shore accentuate the monumental scale of nature depicted. The work was published by Charles Delén in Stockholm, 1801–1802.
