This hand-coloured woodcut depicts a panoramic view of a city within the historic Duchy of Brabant, likely from the German edition of Münster’s Cosmographia. The central image shows a stylized bird’s-eye view of the landscape with a walled city, surrounding countryside, and heraldic coats of arms above. The printed German text below and around the image identifies this as part of Das Fünffte Buch (“The Fifth Book”), describing regions of the Holy Roman Empire in the 16th century. The illustration is a fine example of early modern cartographic woodcuts blended with urban topography and typographic narrative.

Sébastien Münster (1488–1552) was one of the most influential cosmographers of the 16th century. His Cosmographia, first published in 1544, was one of the earliest attempts to describe the world in both text and image. It combined geography, history, and ethnography and became one of the most important books of the Renaissance, widely translated and reprinted throughout Europe.
