163 Bram van Velde (1895–1981) – "Derrière Le Miroir No. 110" – Illustrated Exhibition Portfolio (1958)

This original issue of Derrière Le Miroir (No. 110), published in 1958 by Galerie Maeght, features the work of Dutch painter Bram van Velde, a key figure of lyrical abstraction and existential modernism. The portfolio captures the artist’s dynamic use of color, expressive brushwork, and fractured forms that resist traditional composition in favor of emotional immediacy.
The cover showcases a bold lithograph in Van Velde’s signature palette of ochre, black, orange, and yellow—an abstract composition full of energy and tension. Known for his solitary and uncompromising vision, Van Velde developed a deeply personal form of abstraction that stood apart from mainstream movements like Tachisme or Action Painting, while still resonating with their spontaneity.
Like many Derrière Le Miroir editions, this portfolio served both as a catalog for his exhibition at Galerie Maeght and as an autonomous art object—part publication, part collectible.
