60 Dominique Vivant Denon (1809) – Vue de Rosette – Engraving from Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte – Napoleonic Expedition to Egypt

This antique engraving is from Dominique Vivant Denon's Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, pendant les campagnes de Bonaparte (Journey in Lower and Upper Egypt during the Campaigns of Bonaparte), published by Samuel Bagster in London in 1809. The engraving depicts a detailed view of Rosetta (modern-day Rashid), showcasing a military procession and the architectural features of the city, with soldiers lined up near the buildings and palm trees framing the composition.
Denon, at Napoleon Bonaparte’s invitation, joined the 1798 Egyptian expedition and documented antiquities along the Nile alongside General Louis Charles Antoine Desaix.
