Hand-coloured map originates from John Tallis’s ”Illustrated Atlas”, the illustrations by H. Winkles, this map was engraved by J. Rapkin and published by John Tallis & Co in London, 1851.

John Tallis (1817–1876) was a renowned British cartographer, publisher, and engraver, best known for his decorative and detailed maps and atlases during the mid-19th century. His work is particularly recognized for its artistic flair, often including intricate borders and vignette illustrations of landmarks, cityscapes, and cultural scenes.

Tallis' most famous publication is The Illustrated Atlas of the World (1851), which became a popular resource for its combination of geographical accuracy and visual appeal.
